John Benjamin Sciarra is the former Curator at the Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut and recently retired from Pfizer Global Research and Development, Worldwide Comparative Medicine Department, as their Zebrafish Expert. Sciarra has over 40 yearsβ experience working with marine animals, including sharks, fish, and invertebrates. As one of the first Aquarists hired at the Mystic Marinelife Aquarium (now Mystic Aquarium), Sciarra captured and transported sharks using a system of his design and was among the first to transport a requiem shark (Blue sharkβPrionace glauca) successfully.
John is a master storyteller regaling audiences with his experiences working with all manner of marine life and has published his experiences in the first of a series of books entitled, βSamson the Steller Sea Lion, True Animal Stories, Book 1.β John will release his second book, βLife at a Public Aquarium, True Animal Stories, Book 2,β that includes several of his shark experiences as well as a Natural History and Resources section in the appendix, at the Living Sharks Museum at this mingling event.
Also, Sciarra has designed numerous animal exhibits across the United States and participated in many research projects, including the design and management of the zebrafish project for Pfizer. John is the author of eight novels, a novella, two non-fiction, and several short stories. Artwork by Keith M. Cowley adorn the pages of his childrenβs and YA novels, he has won several awards for his writing.
